40 Over 40: The Beauty of Becoming

I’m going to be honest—when I was approaching 40, I felt blah.

Like, is this it?

Is this the beginning of the end? The countdown to becoming invisible?

Society has a way of making women feel like once we hit a certain age, we’re past our prime. That we should quiet down, shrink ourselves, fade into the background. And honestly? I started to believe it.

But then I started the 40 Over 40 Project, and everything changed.

I had the privilege of photographing and listening to women who had lived, loved, struggled, and risen. Women who had navigated heartbreak, built careers, raised families, and still stood strong, standing even taller as they entered their 40s, 50s, and beyond. And what I learned?

We are just getting started.

When you talk to women in their 40s, something shifts. We’re done playing small. We’re done worrying about whether we’re too much or not enough. We start choosing ourselves.

The women I photographed weren’t just surviving their 40s—they were thriving. They were building businesses, chasing dreams, rediscovering their passions, and, most importantly, reclaiming their confidence. There’s a certain kind of power that comes with knowing who you are and finally, FINALLY giving yourself permission to take up space.

We are at a stage in life where we know ourselves more deeply. We are more intentional in our choices. We love harder, we speak louder, we set boundaries, we take risks. And that? That is liberating.

The 40 Over 40 Project is about visibility. It’s about proving that beauty, strength, sensuality, and confidence do not expire. It’s about giving women a space to see themselves in a way they may never have before—to stand in their power and say, I am here, and I am worthy.

The energy in these sessions is electric. Some women walk in feeling hesitant, unsure if they belong. By the time they walk out, they are unstoppable. Because when you see yourself through a new lens—when you truly witness your own strength and beauty—it changes you.

And this project isn’t just about photos. It’s about community. It’s about gathering together, celebrating each other, and lifting each other higher. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce that our Portrait Gala will be held at the historic Akron Woman’s City Club—a space with a legacy of strong women making an impact. What better place to showcase this incredible movement?

If I could go back and tell my pre-40 self one thing, it would be this:

“This isn’t the beginning of the end. This is the beginning of the best damn chapter yet.”

And I want YOU to come celebrate that with us.

On April 4th from 6:30-9 PM, we’re gathering at the historic Akron Woman’s Club for a night of empowerment, inspiration, and connection.
